William Anthony Colón Román (Bronx, New York, April 28, 1950) is a singer, songwriter, arranger, producer and Puerto Rican-born American trombonist, considered one of the founders and pioneers of Caribbean music genres which later became known as "Salsa". His extensive musical career began in 1969 with singer Hector Lavoe relationship that would culminate in 1974, recording in six years a total of nine studio albums. In 1977 he incorporated into his Orchestra Ruben Blades; relationship that would last five years with a five-album production. In 1979 he launched his recording career as a solo singer, in that capacity, a total of 14 studio albums until 2008. He has also designed and produced such iconic singers such as Celia Cruz, Ismael Miranda, Mon Rivera and Soledad Bravo, and the solo career of Hector Lavoe. Besides musician has become a recognized political activist and held important positions within projects and solidarity organizations. In his career, Willy took 11 Grammy Award nominations, and received 15 gold records and five platinum. Regarding his personal life, is married to Julia, who has four children, and one of his passions is fly. Even licensed private pilot.
